28-07-2025, English papers featured my recent article, “Student Suicides in India: Legal Perspectives and Social Realities.” The piece examines the alarming rise in student suicides, largely driven by academic stress, social stigma, and inadequate mental health support. It also discusses how the Supreme Court and recent government reforms have moved legal focus from punishment to care, especially after changes to Section 309 IPC under the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017. If implemented earnestly, these reforms offer genuine hope for supporting vulnerable students. However, for real progress, urgent attention and systemic action across schools and coaching centers remain essential to stem this national crisis.
