09-07-2025, Several papers reported my expression of deep concern and strong opposition to the recent guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India. These guidelines require all residents of Bihar to present a wide array of documents to be included in the new voters’ roll. I believe such requirements, which closely resemble NRC-type paperwork, are unnecessary for the core purpose of voter registration and place an unjust burden on the people of Bihar.
I urge the Election Commission to reconsider these guidelines, as they risk excluding eligible citizens from exercising their fundamental right to vote. Voter registration should be a simple and accessible process for all, ensuring that no one is disenfranchised due to excessive documentation. I remain committed to advocating for a fair and inclusive electoral process that upholds the democratic values of our nation.
